Photo of the Week
featuring the bittybirds!

One of the bitty birds (ok, it was Cadie) told me that if I'm going to photograph them all the time, I need to put more of their pictures on the site.

You can't argue with a parakeet, so here you have it: Bittybirds' Photo of the Week!

If you would like to nominate your bird's picture for Photo of the Week, email us a nice, clear shot of your bird. Send it to photo-of-the-week@bittybirds.com.

Update:
We are taking a break from the Photo of the Week contest until sometime this spring. Keep sending your pictures to us, though -- when we come back, we will have a big contest that is better than ever, with a free bittybirds.com email address for the winner!

Hey, that's no ornament -- that's a budgie!

Last week's photo (12/02/02):

~ Sunni and his latest friend  by Maria Kourouvasilis ~

Maria writes:

Sunni never loses an opportunity to make friends with whomever he meets, be it human, feathered or paper! Here he is with an old friend who comes to visit once a year right around this time. He’s a quiet guy, true, but very tolerant of a little gentle nibbling.

~ Eureka and Geronimo pose for their fall portrait  by Suzzie ~

Suzzie writes:

These two are the evil masterminds I like to call "double trouble." Eureka is a male normal grey, Geronimo is a female pearl. When the photo was taken, Eureka was about 7 weeks old, and Geronimo was a few days less. Unfortunately, they are both babies that I have since sold, but now I have this cute photo to remember them by!

~ Two little bittybirds took a bath  by Rebecca Hains ~

Rebecca's commentary:

Cadie (left) and Charlie (right) just love to bathe. It's funny, though: Charlie used to hate the water, unlike Cadie, who has always enjoyed bathing. But these days, it seems that Charlie wants to be just like Cadie; whenever he sees her in her budgie bath, he gets all excited because he wants a bath, too!

Charlie, however, absolutely refuses to bathe in a cockatiel-sized bath. You see, Cadie has a cute little budgie bath, and he wants whatever she has; so now, he has his very own budgie bath. (I know, we're nuts!) It's about two sizes too small for him, and a hand-me-down from Cadie, but he loves it. He's our silly little bird. :-)

~ Budgie baby posing incognito as a vulture!  by Julie Wychor, Minnesota ~

Julie writes:

This little budgie is the very first to hatch from my very first clutch of eggs! He was only about 2 weeks old at the time this photo was taken, and has since grown in lots of lovely blue and white feathers. My daughters named him Little Chalupa...don't ask me how they came up with that one!

~ The Best Things Come in Itty Bitty Packages  by Barbara Schroeder, South Carolina ~

Barbara writes:

This is Sweetie. He is an 18 month old pearl pied male. He is a very active little guy who loves to explore. As you can see, he is very enamoured of the bird in the mirror. He is a very social fid and will go to anyone. He is alway into something or up to something! We should have named him Rascal!

We have taken him several times to a retirement home for visits. He sits on peoples' shoulders and sings for them. They seem to enjoy the visits from our birds and the birds seem to enjoy visiting with them.

Sweetie stays busy singing and whistling to his sibling Sunny. He also likes to climb on our parakeets' cage and try to nibble at their treats. Sweetie is a ray of sunshine in our lives. We don't know what we did without him before he came to us!

Jill writes:

I adopted all three sibs at the same time. When I took them in for their first grooming appointment, the breeder (their first Mom) said they reminded her of little Easter eggs. Thanks for letting us participate!

They look innocent, but they're actually plotting their next scheme!

Suzzie writes:

This is my latest clutch; they are 5-6 weeks old. There are two female pearls, one male grey, and another grey whose sex I don't know yet. Their personalities are all so different, but they'd all run a mile for a head scritch! :)

~ Photograph of 3 Siblings by Bonnie K. Corbett ~

Bonnie writes:

These are 3 babies from Teelee and Jellie's last clutch. In the picture they are about 6 weeks old (look very grown up, don't they!) Teelee is a cinnamon pied male and Jellie is a lutino.

Can you imagine wanting them to pose like that and they'd do it? They got pretty used to being photographed because I took their pictures every single day while they were in the nest box so that I could have a record of their growth. It seems that there ought to be something clever I could say about the picture, but I can't think of a thing.

Thanks again, I'm a proud parront!

Bonnie
