- About Cadence -- Quick Facts:

Breed: Budgerigar (budgie), native to Australia
Type: Yellow face type 2 -- seafoam
"Budgerigar" = aboriginal word, meaning "good to eat"
Hatch date: circa December 1998
Adopted in: Allston, Mass.
Joined this flock: February 1999 I have lived with my momma since she was a student. At the time, it was just me and her, and I was sweet and quiet. I liked to help her with her homework. But then, after she graduated, she went and got married! and she and my stepdaddy adopted Charlie, a silly cockatiel! I think Charlie is a big clumsy oaf, and he's always sticking his tail in my face without knowing it, so I make a point of asserting myself. After all, I am the best, smartest, and prettiest bird ever!I begin each day by waiting for momma to come downstairs to say good morning. When I hear her footsteps upstairs, I chirp mightily to let her know I'm awake. She comes over to my house, opens the door, and I hop right out and shower her with kisses. She's my favorite!
During the day, I like to play with my mirror friend; eat seeds, lettuce, and bread; climb wherever I can; chew things; indulge in good, long baths; and take luxurious naps.
I used to enjoy dive-bombing Charlie, cause it's fun, and cause it guarantees that he'll run away whenever I come near him. But when momma and poppa saw me dive-bombing him, they *grounded* me. Can you believe it? Now, I can't go in Charlie's house anymore! It's not fair.
My days always end the same way: Every night, momma or poppa sings me to sleep. The song they sing is "Goodnight, my someone" from The Music Man, except they sing "budgie" instead of "someone." I like it that way. After they're done, they cover up my house, so the sun doesn't wake me in the morning. I do enjoy my beauty sleep!
And... I was named Pet of the Day on July 8, 2002!

- About Charlie -- Quick Facts:

Breed: Cockatiel, native to Australia Type: Cinnamon pearl pied Hatch date: May 2001 Adopted in: Nashua, NH Joined this flock: August 1, 2001 My parents adopted me from my first papa, Ken, and his wife, Bev. They are breeders, and they have a really big flock!!! They took very good care of me, and loved me lots and lots. My momma and poppa say that because of Ken and Bev, I am the sweetest, tamest cockatiel anyone could ever want.Momma and poppa spoil me lots. Whenever they're home, I get to stay outside of my cage, because I *always* like being out. My poppa says I'm a "magic bird": Open the cage door just a little, and I'm out as quickly as can be, like a tiny feathered escape artist! That's me!
I am so soft and snuggly that they call me "Charlie Bear." My grammy wrote me my very own song, called "Puff Ball Charlie," and it's all about how fluffy and soft I am! I like it because it's about *me*.
I was named Pet of the Day on July 22, 2002! That's because I am such a cute little Charlie bear.
I sit with momma when she's working on the computer, to make sure she's doing a good job. I also like to sit with her when she's reading, because she'll pet me the whole time. That's really nice. Sometimes I don't want to be petted, though, so I just hop away. Momma says I'm really smart, because I learned how to hop up the stairs. I am a good bird!
More than anything, though, I love walking around the house with my poppa. He lets me drink straight out of the faucet! and eat out of his bowls! and preen him! He is my most favorite flock member ever. :>
As far as the rest of my flock ... well... I don't like non-humans very much, especially parakeets. My budgie-sister, Cadie, can be really mean to me. She chases me out of my own cage and clucks at me, saying, "I lived here first!" Momma says she's "territorial." So I scurry away whenever she comes near. She's much nicer when we play on the floor upstairs -- then she doesn't bother me so much.
I also don't like ants. One day, there was a big giant ant on the floor near me. When I saw it moving towards me, I ran away as quickly as I could! Wouldn't you?

- About Tommy (our angel) -- Quick Facts:

Breed: Cockatiel, native to Australia Type: Cinnamon pearl pied, but without much pearling -- looks almost lutino Hatch date: April 17, 2001 Adopted in: Nashua, NH Joined this flock: July 7, 2002 Went to heaven on: August 8, 2002 Before my new momma and poppa went on vacation for the fourth of July, they brought Cadie and Charlie to be babysat by Ken and Bev. When they got there, they learned that my brother Reggie and I needed a new home! My previous owners had to send me away because of a mean landlord. They were really sad, and I was too. However, Charlie and I are brothers from the same clutch, and Reggie and I are such cuddle bugs that momma and poppa decided to adopt one of us! I am really happy to be with them. :-) They say they can't have four birds right now, though, so we all hope that someone really nice will adopt Reggie soon. He's so sweet that we're sure somebody will!
Momma and poppa have been spoiling me just like they spoil Cadie and Charlie. I love it! I'm still getting used to the way they do things, though, because they're different from the people I used to live with. But I do love to snuggle, and I make all kinds of cute sounds to let them know I enjoy being with them.
I'm still getting to know Cadie and Charlie, too, so I don't know what I think of them yet. I hardly remember Charlie because we haven't seen each other since we were hatchlings! And Cadie seems kind of ornery. I've been sticking up for myself, and I guess she's surprised because Charlie always runs away from her. So who knows -- maybe we will all be friends soon!
p.s. Momma says you can tell she and poppa weren't planning to have another bird, because she had *just* finished designing this web site when they adopted me. So she had to add all kinds of things just for me. Tee hee hee! I think it's nice that I have a web page now! So I'll be sure to write more later. Come back again sometime!
A sad note of remembrance: Tommy passed away on August 8, 2002. Unbeknownst to us all, he had serious problems with his little kidneys.
Tommy dear, we miss you ***so*** much!

coming
soon!Breed: Cockatiel, native to Australia Type: Normal gray, split to pied Hatch date: April 20, 2001 Adopted in: Nashua, NH Joined this flock: September 14, 2002 When I first met my new momma, I liked her right away. I hopped out of my cage and stepped right on her finger. Then, I started making kissy noises to tell her how much I liked her. She kissed me back! So then I started chirping and chirping at her, and impressed her with all the whistles I know how to make. I've always been good at charming the ladies!I used to live with Tommy in another home, but then the people we lived with had to give us back to the breeder because their landlord was mean. But I'm really glad to be with my new people! They're really nice, and they spoil me. I think it's great!
In August 2002, my momma and poppa moved to Pennsylvania. They wanted to bring me with them before they moved, but they couldn't: After what had happened with my friend Tommy, momma and poppa had the vet do some tests on me first, to make sure I was healthy, but the first time, there were lab errors! They couldn't tell for sure whether I was healthy or not, so they had to leave me with Ken for a few more weeks until I could be retested. It was a long wait!
Then, my new tests showed I was a super healthy bird. Hooray!! So they drove all the way to New Hampshire to pick me up, and then we drove all the way back together. It was a seven hour drive! I'd never been in a car for so long. It was fun! I chirped at all the passing cars and bobbed my head along with the radio.
As for my life in my new home, I think it's great. Everyone likes me because I just love to snuggle, so I'll sit with anyone who'll let me. I entertain everyone with all my whistles. I am the best whistler in the house. Momma says that maybe someday, she'll record me and put my whistles on my web page! That would be cool!
In the meantime, my current goal is to make friends with Charlie. He likes to hang out on Poppa's shoulder, and he seems *soooo* cool! But, he doesn't seem too sure about me just yet. I hope he'll be my friend! So please, wish me luck!
